PRINCE2 FOUNDATION

PRINCE2 FOUNDATION

Introduction

Planning and managing projects to meet the agreed project objectives, resource, time and cost constraints, and quality requirements is critical in today's competitive environment. Project Management (PM) is a demanding and complex profession, with numerous technical and management skills required. To add to the complexity of the profession, Project Managers are expected to move across widely varying business environments and adapt to their systems.
PRINCE2TM is a structured method of effective project management. It was officially adopted by the UK Government in 1979. PRINCETM was extensively developed by an expert panel and by 1989 had become an established standard for best practice project management. Today it still sets the benchmark for excellence in project management methodologies. In 1996 the upgraded and totally redeveloped Version 2 was issued, incorporating the lessons learned over the previous years of real life operations in a full range of projects, from simple, short-term projects to highly complex, long-term, multiple stage, high value projects. PRINCE2TM is now a de facto standard and is widely used in the UK, Australia, Canada, Holland, South Africa, parts of the Middle East and throughout other parts of the world. PRINCE2TM continues to be adopted by more organisations and is growing rapidly in popularity and acceptance in both Government and the business world.
PRINCE2 TM is one of the main PM methodologies that provide a framework within which many of the processes and outputs are defined.
The PRINCE2TM method is owned by the British Crown administered by the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and managed by the UK-based APM Group.
